Colorado Vacation

WOW! We had an AMAZING family vacation this last weekend! I consider it the first "real" family vacation because we didn't go to a lake. We took the kids up to Colorado Springs for 4 days of adventure and excitement. The left Thursday afternoon and made the 4 hour trip to Oakley (a good half-way stopping point). We stayed the night there before we continued our travels in the morning.

Colorado Here We Come!!

Day 1: Garden of the Gods
We were mesmerized by the awesome rocks and beautiful scenery at Garden of the Gods. The rocks were very loose sand, so Kendall did a lot of slipping and sliding, but never complained and loved the experience. But Parker was running and jumping from rock to rock. Scared us to death! "Don't worry about the 50-foot drop, Mom!"

Day 2: Cave of the Winds, Helen Hunt Falls, Casa Bonitas
The kids loved the cave! Both say that was their favorite part. Of course we had a tour guide in the cave that told us all kids of stories. What shocked me was how much Parker was paying attention. When we got home, he was telling so many of the stories perfectly. And there was so many stairs between the cave and the falls - almost 600 that we did (not counting all the walking). And Kendall never complained and she did it like a pro! I think she even beat Parker up the falls that had 187 stairs. We finished the day at Casa Bonitas for some diving fun as we ate dinner. Well, Kevin and I ate dinner. Parker and Kendall were too busy down in the splash zone.

Day 3: Pikes Peak & Manitou Springs
We got up really early to catch a train up to Pikes Peak. It was so cool to be standing on the mountain that we have been in awe of for the last couple of days. When we headed back down we did some shopping at the bottom of the mountain in the town of Manitou Springs. Kendall even got a butterfly tattoo.
